Getting a good result
Stand across the street
Far enough back that the whole roof is in frame, square to the front of the house rather than at a sharp angle.
Shoot in even light
An overcast day or the hour after sunrise. Hard midday sun blows out one slope and buries the other in black.
Keep the whole roof in frame
Both edges of each roof face need to be in the photo. If a tree or a neighbour's garage hides half the roof, that half cannot be shown.
A phone photo from the curb takes about ten seconds and gives a far better preview than anything pulled off the internet, because it shows the house as it stands today, in the light it actually sits in. If you would rather not photograph it yourself, send us the address and we will bring samples and photograph the elevation at the site visit.
